American teen's 'longing for China' finds an echo in Henan
On February 20, the "2026 U.S. Youth Pickleball Cultural Exchange Trip to China" visited Hebi in central China's Henan Province. More than 40 American participants toured the Xunxian County, where they enjoyed traditional shehuo folk performances, strolled through temple fairs, and watched demonstrations of the centuries-old molten iron fireworks craft, immersing themselves in what organizers described as "a day in the life of a Chinese local."
Ryan, an American student who visited several schools across China last year, made many Chinese friends during his trip. After returning home, he actively shared his experiences in China with family and friends.
Revisiting the country this year, Ryan said his first trip to China was about "building connections," while this visit to Hebi has given him a much deeper understanding of the land and its culture. (Reporters: Chen Chen and Tong Lin; Intern: Li Chenlong)
