Henan Airport: Building an Air Silk Road to Bring Global Goods within Reach

In Henan today, Malaysian durians and Thai mangosteens on supermarket shelves are as fresh and affordable as local fruits, while cross-border e-commerce packages from the Pearl River Delta can be swiftly delivered to consumers in Southeast Asia. All this convenience is made possible by the "dual-hub" strategy at Henan airport.

Centered in Zhengzhou, Henan airport has joined hands with Luxembourg—a logistics hub in Europe and America—and Kuala Lumpur, a core distribution point in Southeast Asia, weaving two "Air Silk Roads" that cover major global economies. The Zhengzhou-Luxembourg route, launched in 2014, now connects over 200 cities across Europe, America, and Asia, extending Henan's logistics reach to corners of the world. Meanwhile, the Zhengzhou-Kuala Lumpur route has emerged as a rising star, with its cargo volume soaring 10.5 times year-on-year in 2024 and reaching nearly seven times the previous year's total in the first ten months of 2025, becoming a golden channel linking Southeast Asia.

Leveraging the "dual-hub" advantage, Henan airport has achieved a full spectrum of "air-to-air transshipment" modes: international-to-international, international-to-domestic, and domestic-to-international. Fresh fruits from Southeast Asia can be flown from Kuala Lumpur, transshipped and distributed via Zhengzhou, and placed on supermarket shelves across China within 36 hours. Domestic goods can also be quickly transferred worldwide through this hub, truly realizing "global cargo flow." It is projected that in 2025, the airport's "air-to-air transshipment" cargo volume will exceed 35,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of over 45%, reflecting continuously improving logistics efficiency.

The "dual-hub" strategy has not only boosted cargo but also brought people closer. After China and Malaysia signed a visa waiver agreement, passenger traffic between the two countries surged significantly. China Southern Airlines promptly increased the frequency of Zhengzhou-Kuala Lumpur flights to daily services, with seat occupancy rates rising by 5 percentage points. Today, Henan Airport serves not only as a global cargo distribution center but also as a convenient gateway for international travel.

From an inland airport to a global logistics node, Henan airport has broken geographical barriers with its "dual-hub" model. Despite having no coastline, it connects the world through sky routes, enabling Henan to truly "buy globally and sell globally." This initiative adds color to everyday life and fuels local development.
