Digital Technology Unlocks Civilization: Henan Revitalizes Oracle Bone Script

"A single oracle bone astonishes the world." These 3,300-year-old inscriptions from the Shang Dynasty are now scattered across the globe, like wandering emissaries of civilization awaiting their return home. As the birthplace of oracle bone script, Henan is leveraging technology as a bridge and embracing the mission of cultural transmission, allowing these "cultural wanderers" to come home in digital form.

Digital technology is paving the "homecoming path" for overseas oracle bones. The team from Anyang Normal University traveled to France with customized automated equipment, using 3D scanning, high-definition photography, and other technologies to capture every detail of the inscriptions, textures, and cracks on each oracle bone. Through micro-trace enhancement processing, they created comprehensive data models, which are then integrated into the "Yin Qi Wen Yuan" AI collaborative platform. This effort establishes high-fidelity digital archives for oracle bones dispersed abroad.

"Oracle bone inscription writing" was once a solemn record made by ancestors with knives and bones. Today, Henan is reactivating this cultural code. Through the AI collaborative platform, artificial intelligence assists scholars in deciphering meanings and connecting contexts, enabling research to transcend geographical and linguistic barriers. Oracle bone inscriptions are no longer static exhibits in museums but have become a dynamic heritage that can be shared, collaboratively studied, and co-created worldwide.

Moreover, this marks yet another "digital expedition" for the team. Previously, oracle bone collections from South Korea were similarly "invited" back to Henan frame by frame and incorporated into the global oracle bone big data platform, "Yin Qi Wen Yuan." Henan is using modern technology to safeguard ancient writing, ensuring that every oracle bone, whether in Paris or Berlin, finds its way back to Anyang in the digital world, openly accessible to researchers worldwide.

Where digital technology meets millennia-old script, Henan ensures that oracle bone script not only "return home" but also "reach out", adding a vivid footnote to the inheritance of Chinese civilization.
