Stable Production in Henan Agriculture with Wind and Rain!

In the fields of the Central Plains lies the "resilience code" for China's food security. In 2025, despite consecutive challenges of spring drought, summer heat, and autumn floods, Henan agriculture still achieved an outstanding total grain output of 135.098 billion jin (approximately 67.55 million metric tons).

This marks the ninth consecutive year that Henan has maintained grain production above 130 billion jin. Cultivating just 1/16 of the nation's arable land, it nourishes nearly 1/10 of the country's staple food supply.

This confidence stems from the solid support of superior seeds and agricultural technology. The Zhengmai 1860 wheat variety yielded over 850 kilograms per mu under drought and high-temperature conditions, while the Qiu Le 368 corn variety stood firm against wind and rain thanks to its triple-layer "dominant root system." Molecular breeding technology has endowed crops with intrinsic "stress-resistant genes." Confronted with delayed sowing due to prolonged rainy spells and waterlogging, the "Four Supplements and One Promotion" technique, coupled with expert field guidance, ensured robust agricultural development empowered by science and technology.

This assurance comes from the solid foundation of infrastructure. Across 88.08 million mu (approximately 5.87 million hectares) of high-standard farmland, smart irrigation systems and sensors provide real-time monitoring, while an extensive network of channels enables irrigation during droughts and drainage during floods. Tracked harvesters salvaged crops from muddy fields, and electric unmanned tractors carried out precise operations. With a total agricultural machinery power of 110 million kilowatts, farming has bid farewell to passive reliance on weather conditions.

This commitment is deeply rooted in the reverence of the Henan people for grain. The sight of bending down to gather fallen wheat after harvest, the determination to harvest corn by hand in waterlogged fields, and the diligent maintenance of irrigation channels during the farming off-season—all these actions transform the verse "every grain is the fruit of hard toil" from poetry into daily practice. Together, they uphold the promise that "a good harvest must translate into abundant yield."

When storms strike, Henan agriculture stands resilient as a shield. On this land, every seed carries hope, every technology fortifies the line of defense, collectively writing the story of Henan's responsibility and commitment as a strong agricultural province.
