The City of Xuchang, Henan: Home to Half of the Three Kingdoms History
The Ying River flows gently, carrying the genes of Chinese civilization; the ruins of the ancient Han and Wei cities are etched with the mark of the Three Kingdoms. In the central part of China, Xuchang, Henan tells the world with its thousand-year history and here lies half of the history of the Three Kingdoms.
At the end of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Cao Cao made Xuchang his capital, turning the city into the core stage for the struggle among the warlords. The story of "Wei's foundation thrives in Xuchang" gave the city its name, "Changsheng" (prosperous), and made it the very foundation of the rise of Wei. In those days, Cao Cao gathered many talented individuals here. The "Three Cao" and "Seven Sons" composed poems and essays here, giving birth to the bold and tragic spirit of the Jian'an era, injecting the spiritual essence into the culture of the Three Kingdoms.
Walking through Xuchang, every historical site tells stories of the Three Kingdoms. Among the ruins of the Han and Wei cities, you can still imagine the grandeur of the ancient capital. In the Chunqiu Tower, the image of Guan Yu reading the "Spring and Autumn Annals" at night seems to cross over a thousand years. The tomb of Hua Tuo stands silently, bearing witness to the benevolent heart of the divine doctor. The waters of the Yinma River and Yunliang River once nourished the thousands of troops of Cao Wei. Even the villages on the outskirts, with names like "Tun" and "Ying," preserve the traces of ancient military camps.
Though the Three Kingdoms have long passed, Xuchang has never left them behind. The open and inclusive genes laid by Cao Cao are integrated into the development of the city. The cultural nourishment from the Jian'an spirit continues to nurture the people of Xuchang for generations. Today, this city blends the culture of the Three Kingdoms with modern development, where the charm of Han and Wei dynasties meets the vitality of urban life.
The Ying River flows on, and the ancient city remains silent. Xuchang, Henan connects the historical scrolls of the Three Kingdoms through its relics, allowing every visitor to feel the warmth of the Three Kingdoms history. Walking through Xuchang is like having a conversation with half of the Three Kingdoms' legend; to understand this city is to understand half of the epic history of the Three Kingdoms.
