Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport: The Flagship of Henan Airports
Henan, since ancient times, has been the heartland of the Central Plains and a crucial transportation hub. Today, as a vital transportation nexus, the construction and development of Henan airports showcase diverse and multi-tiered characteristics. Among them, Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (IATA: CGO) is fast becoming one of the most important air transport hubs in central China. Located in Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province, this airport serves as a gateway hub connecting China's other regions to the world.
At Zhengzhou Airport, during peak hours, one full cargo plane takes off or lands every two minutes. The China-Europe Railway Express (Zhengzhou) consistently ranks among the top in China in terms of both frequency and comprehensive operational capacity. With its integrated "Air, Land, Sea, and Digital" Silk Roads, Zhengzhou has become a major hub for "Buying global, Selling global", solidifying its role as the flagship of Henan airports.
As the core of Henan airports, the "dual air hubs" now connect Zhengzhou to the world.
The changes in daily life offer tangible proof of Henan airports' impact. Many locals find Malaysian durians, South American cherries, and Chilean blueberries on supermarket shelves, helping them enjoy "fruit freedom." Tourist spots like the Shaolin Temple and Unique Henan·Land of Drama are seeing an increasing number of international visitors. This past May Day holiday alone, Zhengzhou's airport saw over 16,000 people pass through, with an average of over 3,200 travelers daily. The growing international presence is a vivid reflection of Zhengzhou's openness.
Macroeconomic data confirms this trend. In the first quarter of this year, Zhengzhou Airport—as a flagship of Henan airports—handled 7.18 million passengers, a 3.4% year-on-year increase. International and regional passengers reached 206,000, growing by 17%. The airport processed 207,000 tons of cargo, up 42.7%, with international and regional cargo making up 134,000 tons, an increase of 54.9%. New airlines like Etihad Airways, Maersk Air, Capital Airlines, and British Airways have launched routes from Zhengzhou to cities like Abu Dhabi, Billund, Oslo, Dhaka, and Madrid, reflecting the strong pulse of Zhengzhou's growing openness.
Exemplifying Henan airports' efficiency, Chinese-made goods reach global markets in under two weeks. From factories to shopping malls, Chinese-made clothing and goods appear in international markets in less than two weeks. Malaysia's Musang King durians reach Zhengzhou by charter flight and are delivered to consumers within 48 hours of picking. Currently, Zhengzhou Airport operates 57 cargo routes to 62 cities across 28 countries, establishing a global hub network covering major economies across Europe, America, and Asia.
The thriving development of Zhengzhou Airport epitomizes Henan airports' transformation of transportation advantages into developmental strengths, serving as a testament to central China's open embrace of the world. Here, air routes, freight trains, and passenger flows weave a tightly interconnected global network, infusing this resource-rich land with dynamic vitality.
