Henan Normal University inaugurates Institute of Country and Regional Studies
On May 24, Henan Normal University celebrated a significant academic milestone with the official inauguration of its Institute of Country and Regional Studies. The newly established institute aims to build an interdisciplinary research hub to serve both national strategies and regional development. It brings together academic resources from multiple disciplines, including foreign languages, political science, economics, and history. It focuses on four major research areas: theories and methods in country and regional studies; language, culture, and mutual learning among civilizations; South and Southeast Asian studies; and Northeast Asian studies. It is committed to fostering a new interdisciplinary research paradigm.
The Henan Provincial Federation of Social Sciences and the Foreign Affairs Office have expressed strong support for the initiative. They hope the institute will leverage the cultural strengths of the Central Plains region to develop "Henan-specific Solutions" that contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative and China's national strategy of building an education powerhouse. As the province's first interdisciplinary platform dedicated to country and regional studies, the institute will promote the integration of linguistic big data with area studies. This innovative approach is expected to yield valuable insights into global governance and contributing to the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind.
On the same day, the university also hosted the "High-end Forum on Country and Region Studies from Interdisciplinary Perspectives," featuring keynote presentations by distinguished scholars from Peking University, Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and other leading institutions. The forum's agenda focused on two pivotal themes: establishing the disciplinary framework for country and region studies, and exploring pathways for mutual learning among civilizations.
