On October 9th, the North Longhu Wetland Park in Zhengzhou became a stage for a delightful scene as groups of Mute Swans, a nationally protected species, frolicked and fed in the water. The sight has drawn crowds of citizens and photography enthusiasts, showcasing the serene beauty of nature and humanity in harmony.
The Mute Swans, which are classified as a second-class protected species in China, have found a new home in North Longhu since the end of 2019. The number of these majestic birds has been on the rise, with several broods hatching this year, and the total population is expected to exceed one hundred.
In recent years, Zhengzhou has been vigorously promoting the construction of a beautiful Zhengzhou where humans and nature coexist harmoniously, safeguarding the reproduction and habitat for swans. In particular, the Zhengdong New District, with a water-based and green-oriented ecosystem, has built a comprehensive water network centered around Longhu, known as the "Four Lakes, Ten Rivers, and Four Channels". This network integrates various functions such as climate regulation, flood control, irrigation, and landscape tourism. Relying on the lake surface, the North Longhu Wetland Park and the Xianghu Ecological and Cultural Park have been established, with Ruyi Lake and Ruyi River, Kunli River, Jinshui River, Xiong'er River, and others forming a complete urban ecological water system connected with artificial wetlands, reserving more living space for animals.
