  South-to-North Water Diversion Project's central route has supplied over 20 billion cubic meters of water to Henan


By August 29th, the South-to-North Water Diversion Project's central route achieved a milestone in Henan Province by supplying over 20 billion cubic meters of water, which is equivalent to providing one-third of the average annual runoff of the Yellow River as a high-quality water source.

The total length of the central route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is 1,432 kilometers. Henan Province has the longest section and the highest water allocation within the central route with a coverage of 731 kilometers of the route. There are 39 water division outlets along this route, and as of now, this project has supplied water to 11 cities, 49 county-level cities, and 122 towns, benefiting 29.5 million people.

In the more than eight years since the official operation of the first phase of the central route, a total of over 58.4 billion cubic meters of water have been diverted to Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, and Henan provinces. It has become a lifeline for water supply to many large and medium-sized cities along the route. Over 20 major cities and more than 200 counties and districts are benefiting from the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. The project has directly benefited over 85 million people, with the number of beneficiaries continuously increasing. The central route of the project has become a vital water source for major cities along it, showcasing significant economic, social, and ecological benefits.
