About the Henan Weiqi Association(HWA)

Henan Weiqi Association (HWA) was established in 2002. It is a non-governmental organization approved by the Bureau of Sports of Henan Province and registered with the Civil Affairs Department of Henan Province. In December 2018, Dr. Ma Wang was elected as the second chairman of the HWA.

Wang Jianhong, Chinese pro, 9th-dan in 1996, served as the Secretary-General of the HWA. The HWA now has 85 directors, 212 individual members, and 129 group members. It has five departments: General Department, Competition and Training Department, Publicity Department, Finance Department, and External Relations Department.

Since 2018, the HWA has organized a professional Weiqi team to participate in China Weiqi League; started the provincial junior Weiqi team to cultivate candidates for the Weiqi competition. Also, the HWA carried out activities to introduce the Weiqi culture to schools. Every year, tens of thousands of players participate in amateur-level Weiqi games. The HWA also hosted several national Weiqi events in Henan, such as the China Weiqi Player Saint Competition (Qisheng Zhan). Meanwhile, the HWA has made the best of the history and culture of Henan Weiqi. It has carried out activities such as the "Henan Weqi Culture Exhibition," "Weiqi Culture in Song Dynasty Forum," "Heluo Culture and Weiqi Seminar," established the Zhengzhou Jianzhang Weiqi Museum, and set up the "Central Plains Weiqi Culture Research Fund."

In the new era, the HWA works hard to tell the story of Henan Weiqi culture and strengthen communication with other cultures to contribute to developing a leading Henan province in sports and culture.
